RTD editorial pitches a Bottom ballpark
Freed from the prerequisite that the stadium be on the Boulevard, the city should do what is in the best interests of the city, the region and the Squirrels. That means choosing a site that is downtown.
Think about the impact of a downtown ballpark! Imagine driving north on I-95, crossing the river and looking to your right. In the foreground is the historic Main Street Station with the newly renovated train shed glistening next to it. Behind it, a brand new, dynamic and architecturally inspiring ballpark full of fans.
Surrounding it, commercial, office and retail development, along with historic resources, that beg you to get off the interstate and take a look. Think of the impression that would make on the millions of people who travel through our city every year.
The reality is that the public priority of a mass transit/bus transfer station should be more important than a new baseball stadium.
