Police looking for info in Shockoe Bottom Slip traffic death

From a RPD email alert;

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to find the driver of a vehicle that struck two people in Shockoe Bottom Slip early this morning and left the scene.

At approximately 2 a.m., a group of people were fighting in the 00 block of South 14th Street near East Canal Street . The fight spilled out into the street and two men fell to the ground where they were struck by a vehicle that then left the scene. That vehicle was last seen traveling South on 14th Street.

Both victims were taken to the hospital. David M. Boyd, 25, of Chesterfield, later died of his injuries while the second victim, a 23-year-old male from Chesterfield , suffered serious injuries, but is now in stable condition.

Crash Team investigators are processing information, but are asking for the public’s help to find witnesses who may have seen the fight or the crash as well as anyone who may have video of any part of the incident, including any information about the striking vehicle.

They ask anyone with any information about today’s crime to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.

    This is one of the worst and most dangerous intersections in the city–even when there is no fighting.

    14th Street is Shockoe SLIP not the Bottom.

    It seems when anything that goes bad around there they automatically call it the Bottom. They get fussy when it is something good then it is the Slip.
